Free speech currently is under heavy attacks perpetrated by online platforms, such as Facebook and Twitter, and by governments, most recently and notably by the United Kingdom and the United States.
Legislative intentions are present, and perhaps are more alive than ever, to curb online free speech under such pretexts as combating “bullying” and punishing “hateful conduct.” We firmly believe that those possible new laws may affect in negative ways any content creator who takes a critical stance against issues supported by the current establishment.
In light of recent news, from the United Kingdom and from the United States, there are legislative efforts to curb online free speech, so we have decided to allow our users complete anonymity by not recording any and all IP addresses starting today, on the 11th of May.
This includes, in technical terms, scripts and code running on our websites and in the back-end on our server.
We believe in free speech and in the open market of ideas allowing people the freedom to express themselves.
We’ve also made the decision to allow visitors to create accounts without providing an email address. An email address can be later added manually by the owner of the account on the ‘Edit Profile’ page.
We sincerely hope that legislators will reconsider their stance and stop aligning themselves with individuals and groups who are against our basic, but essential right to freedom of speech.
